Advantages: Genetic engineering promises that:
~ Increases crop yields
~ Lower cost for farmer
~ Reduced use of herbicides
Unfortunately, it is not really being achieved.
Disadvantages:
Genetic engineering is totally different from natural methods. This is uncontrolled process, the insertion is random and may damage the plant's genetic make up. The mutations occur during the process can cause many unexpected changes in corp's result, such as:~ Poor corp performance
~ Toxic and allergenic effects
~ Harm to environment
Genetic engineering does not reduce pesticide use. This process has led to an increase in the amount of pesticides and herbicides used (toxic substances that are released into the environment to kill the amount of plant or animal). Therefore, the world's weed killer has also been increased. Roundup's glyphosate is classified to be "Dangerous for the environment". Nature always adapts, this requires the increased use of stronger pesticide. The company earns more money from the farmers who depend on their toxic chemical.
Genetic engineering does not increase crop yield potential but has the opposite effect. Glyphosate depletes soil quality by killing the natural nutrients and organism that are necessary for the plant's development. Genetic engineering creates serious environmental problems. It is increased pesticide and herbicide use affects wildlife and non pest population. Pesticides affect both GMO and non-GMO plants and may kill them.
Genetic engineering is justified as a climate change solution. Genetically Modified crops consume massive a large amounts of energy because they are depended on herbicides which use fossil fuels during manufacture; and also on nitrogen fertilizer which emits greenhouse gases. Genetic engineering does not protect the security of our food supply and solve the food hungers problem. Food security can be addressed by natural methods, which help to get the "supercorps" like flood-tolerant rice, drought-tolerant maize, pest-resistant chickpeas.
At present, GMO foods have been sold in many supermarket. United States and Canada have join the roster but over 50 countries do not. I believe it is a right time to reclaim your choice for truly health and naturally true foods sources.

Producing GMOs has a lot of risks, especially with the chance of harming not only humans but animals. In fact, some GM crops are ruining the habitats of monarch butterflies. GMOs do have a positive role in they are often created to prevent being infected by disease or fungus.
